How do you stay active after your children have left the nest?

Paddling on the Meramec River

August 18, 2019 by Empty Nester Leave a Comment

It was a beautiful day so we decided to go kayaking. We paddled from Castlewood State Park to the boat ramp at Greentree Park. Total trip was about 4.5 miles.

It took us a little bit of logistical planning to figure out how to get the kayaks to the starting point and still have a way to get them out at the bottom. We drove both vehicles to Greentree Park and left the car there. Then we both went in the truck, with the kayaks, to Castlewood State Park. We put the kayaks in and spent several hours padding. Then we took out at Greentree Park. I waited while The Husband drove the car back to Castlewood and then returned with the truck. We loaded the kayaks up and drove back to Castlewood to get the car. Since both parks are so close together road wise it worked out OK.

One note: Due to recent flooding, it was difficult to find a good place to put the kayaks in at Castlewood. At the normal spot, we sunk in mud up to our knees before we were nearly close to the river. So we had to go downstream a little bit to find more solid ground. But once we got in, it was a lovely afternoon of paddling. So peaceful!
